Ruth Scheuing is an artist with an interest in textiles as language, myth and metaphor. Her artwork revolves around textiles, women, language, myths and technology ranging from hand-weaving to satellite technologies. More recently her studio practice has focused on Jacquard weaving and implications of the relationship between ‘nature,’ floral patterns and Cyborgs. Her works have been exhibited in North America and Europe in solo and group exhibitions for over 25 years, and her writing has been published extensively. Ruth co-edited a book of essays entitled Material Matters: the art and culture of contemporary textiles,' published in 1998 in Canada by YYZ Press. Ruth Scheuing currently teaches in the Textile Arts Program at Capilano College in North Vancouver.
